Mini – Honeymoon, Impossible Decision!

About a week ago I realized that it would be great to surprise Dennis with a mini-honeymoon after the wedding. The weeks before and the days immediately following the wedding we’ll be surrounded by friends and family (which we’re thrilled about!) and then our real honeymoon probably won’t be until 6-12 months later. After everyone leaves the beach on Sunday it might be nice to head somewhere just the two of us, to relax and bask in the newlyweddedness.

I found this awesome bed and breakfast in the forest called Powder Creek Ranch, conveniently located on the way back from the beach.

The room I wanted to surprise him with is the East Lake Suite. oregon-coast-cabin-accommodations~~element34

The B&B is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by wildlife, with only two guest suites and tons of hiking trails. It sounded absolutely perfect. And so, of course, it was already booked.

Back to the drawing board.

After hours of searching for affordable options I came across two. Neither are as conveniently located as the Powder Creek Ranch but both are great. Unfortunately, I can’t surprise Dennis because I can’t decide between them! So last night I shared both options with Dennis and… he can’t decide either.

What’s your vote?

Option 1: The McKenzie River

Pros:

  • Cute, rustic 1 bedroom cottage
  • Also located in the middle of nowhere
  • Private and secluded, right on the river (can’t you imagine sitting on that deck?)
  • Reminds us of the Shenandoah Valley, where we got engaged
  • Whitewater rafting is right down the road

Cons:

  • It’s a 3-hour drive from the beach and then another 4-hour drive back to Portland
  • Some of the cabins are pretty close to a busy road on their front side and there is traffic noise
  • It really would be just relaxing as there isn’t much else in the area

Option 2: Hood River

Pros:

  • Only an hour outside of Portland
  • Bed and Breakfast
  • Incredible views of Mt. Hood from every room
  • Easy access to the restaurants and breweries in Hood River
  • Lots of hiking and outdoor activities

Cons:

  • A little more expensive
  • Not as private/romantic
  • Might be lots of other guests roaming around

Now that you know what we know, what would you recommend?

  1. The decision has been made! We’ll be heading to Hood River for some mountain views, hiking, and brewery tours. Can’t wait!!
